NME

NME is a UK based magazine that also has NME Awards and NME tours. The Awards are a programme that celebrates the music talents of the year, they are like the Brits. NME sponsers a tour of the UK for up and coming bands. This could be something that Half Hr Stay -_- takes part in, this is because it will help to establish them.

The Rolling Stone

The Rolling Stone magazine is different to the other magazines that I have looked at, this is because this magazine as you can see features a range of bands and genres of music. It also features important people such as the President of America. The target audience for this magazine is spilt as it then appeals to many people making the audience bigger and therefore more people buying it. This magazine is an important goal that my band will have as it will help them establish themselves in America, this being that many of the biggest names of America have been featured in this magazine. People such as Jay-Z, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Obama, Lil Wayne and Eminem.
The Magazine is devoted to Music, Politics and other popular culture.

Kerrang!

These are just some of the magazine front covers from Kerrang! after looking at these i believe that as my band progresses and becomes more established in the music industry they will too be on the front cover the magazine.
They will fit in with this as my band too are different in appearances and are within the genre that they seem to be aimed at, the genre being Alternate, Rock, Punk and other genre similar to these.
Both front covers are different to the other as they are featuring different bands, they also have a different dimension to them they make the band stand out. In the Paramore cover they make the image look 3D as Hayley is standing in a different position to the others, with composition of the image see looks like she is coming out of the advert.

The Fall Out Boy cover is different as Fall Out Boy is a band however there are only twoo of the members of the band on the cover, this is because they are the most known and recogonised people within the band. Both of the front covers are differnt in that they use different colours and that both of them look a lot different.

MOJO

MOJO magazine is different in that most of the bands that it has on the covers are from the genre of Rock, as well as Pop and other sub genres within both genres. The MOJO magazine is targeted at the more dedicated music listeners, from the layout of the magazine you can tell they are more about the music rather than the advertisment. My band would fit in with this magazine as they are all about the music and they want to be taken seriously in the music industry.
Most of the musicians that are featured in this magazine are from the era when Rock'n'Roll really started and the still recognised bands came from. These are the bands that are the ICONS of their time, this something that my band want achieve.

The Posts above ^^

The posts above are research into the type of magazines that my poster will feature in, by looking at these magazines i am able to judge and make sure that my posters will fit into these magazines. After looking at them I am sure that my plans for what my poster will fit into the genre. The magazine that best fits my band is Mojo or Rolling Stones, this is because both magazines are not set to a specific genre and they talk about a lot of different things.

Websites

I have looked at different websites from some of the bands in the alternate genre to get a feel for how they portray themselves. From this I can see that they are always using different methods to keep up the advertisment, these websites also allow their fans to keep up to date with what they are doing constantly. This then also allows for a bigger fan base as the website is up for everybody to see.

Task Nineteen- Audience Research Two

After collecting my data I can see that most of the people that i asked lived in Sutton and Morden. These two places are very built up areas with shopping centres and train lines running into London. The majority of the people that I asked liked R'n'B music this is likely as people in more built up areas listen to R'n'B than any of the other genres. The second largest genre of music listened to is Indie music.

When asked about what people like in their music videos one third of the people said performance. From this I will note that performance is a key part of my video as many people like the performances that the Band or the Artists perform.

I decided to not do R'n'B as it would then be more challenging, I also did not chose R'n'B because at the time I listened more to Alternate music and so did the rest of my group thus making it not too challenging for us to come up with a video for the song.

Task Eighteen- Audience Research One

From this questionnaire I will find out key infomation that will influence the direction that my music video goes in as i will want to make sure that it ticks all the right boxes when being watched by my target audience.

See Audience post, just before task 14 (research) for a photofit of my audience.

Task Seventeen (b)- Record Label Research

I chose none of the record labels above as I chose to use the record label that You Me At Six (YMAS) were with. This was because the song that I intend to use is by YMAS and therefore it already fits into a record label that signs bands such as HALF Hr Stay -_- .

Task Seventeen (a)- Advertisment Research

Task Sixteen- Cd Cover Research

Task 15* - Genre Research

The above images are taken from a Razorlight video and The Kooks videos. This just gives me an idea of the types of shots that are usually used and the composition of the shots as well.

The video above is by The Kooks- She moves in her own way.

This is an example of an Indie video.

From this video and others i can see that the conventions of an indie video are pretty much simular to an alternate video, however indie videos are less extensive in the way that they use everyday items and situations as well as keeping the video to a minimal affect. This basically means that the video mainly focuses on the artist/ band and their music rather than the fancy video and the fame of being a singer.

Conventions -

Close up of the artist

Shots of the whole band

Every day locations

Low key lighting

Task Fifteen- Genre Research Three

The first line of images above are taken from You Me at Six video Underdog, the second line is taken from The Script video Nothing and the last is taken from Oasis Wonderwall.

I choose these three videos as they are all in different subgenres within the alternate genre.

The conventions of a Alternative rock video as follows:

Close ups of instruments
Long shots of the band
Close ups of all of the members in the band
Costume wise they wear skinny jeans with patterned t-shirts or shirts and scarfs
There is a contrast between light and dark
Loads of close ups of the main singer to create a moment of pleasure for the audience
Usually follows a narrative or a concept
Dark clothing
Range of Instruments

Audience

My target audience for my music video and Ancillary, is wide, I decided to have a larger target audience than a niche audience as I like lots of different genres of music and I wanted to incorporate some of the elements from all the different genres that I liked into my band and its image. By doing this I am free to add lots of elements into the tasks and create my own genre. I want my band to target people who like alternate music, this is because it will maily focus on influences from the alternate genre. However I would like my band to attract people who listen to other types of music as well suh as R'n'B and other genres that are nothing like the alternate genre.

The above pictures are photos of the sort of audience that I am hoping to capture with my band. This person likes spending time with friends, going out to the cinema, going to the park, parties and other things that young teenagers like to do.
This type of audience is still at school, or is in higher education. She probably works so that she can earn more money. Which is then spent on make up, clothes, concert tickets, evenings out.
