In this lesson we have looked at how over the past 14 years, Jay-Z has changed his image to keep with the times as well as the changing his image as and when people criticize what he is doing.
The above document shows two of his early album.

19.11.10

Today we have had another meeting with our extras for our video.

During the week that has passed we have been told that we could not use film our video during the school day as we would be needing to take students out of their lessons. So in todays meeting we spoke to the extras about when they would be free to film the video. From this we decided that we would film on Tuesday 30th November. This is when we will get most of our filming out of the way.

Task Sixteen- Talent Release forms

This is the talent release form that I will need the band to sign when we start filming. Talent release form is used by producers to get permission for the performace that they are filming. This basically means that the producer can publish the video without any problems.

Task Seventeen- Track Permission Letter

We need to write a track permission letter so that we do not face legal action, this is because the song is copyright.

Task Fifteen- Location Permission Letters

Task Fourteen- Photoshoot plan

My ideas for the photoshoot include using the green screen, by using the green screen i will be able to photoshop different locations behind the band without having to go to the locations and take all of the instruments as it will be difficult taking a drum kit to london.

I also intend on having a page in the CD cover that will be a collage of all of the different pictures of the band as they are playing at concerts. This will also involve polaroids of the band layered on top of the other images. By doing this i will create an illusion of loads of images stacked on top of eachother.

Task Twelve - CD Cover Designs

As you can see from the image above I did not really know what I wanted on my Digipack. I had a rough idea of what I wanted but nothing definative. So I decided that I would advance with my filming and as the filming progresses I would have an idea as to what I would want on my Digipack. I thought this to be best as it would then allow me to make a definate connection between the video and the Digipack enforcing the links between them and creating this persona of the band.

Task Thirteen- Poster Designs

My influences for my Poster was from the You Me at Six video in which they announce who the video is by, by using old Polaroid pictures. (This picture can be found in my Image Annotation post, further down in planning). I thought that the poster shoudl be basic so that the audience focus on the band and not on anything else, thus connoting that its about the band and the music and nothing else.

Task Eleven- Shooting Schedule

Task Ten - Location shots

During the half term myself and Shelby went up to London in order to take some pictures of locations that we may use for our video.
The following pictures are from London Bridge and Camden Town. This is because we believe that they will look better for the video as it will make the video look more professional.

We have decided to film in Camden as it is known for being the home town of things that are really different. It also means that we are not filming in school, by using this location we are also making sure that it fits with the genre of the music. Camden is a random place where you can come across anything making it fit in with the song.

Task Nine- Lists of Props, costumes, make-up and equipment

Task Seven- Concept

Task Eight- Storyboards

9/11/10

Today, myself and Shelby had a meeting with the extras in our music video as well as the band. We played them the song and talked to them about the concept of the video.
After this we spoke to them about the image of the band and then the type of clothes that we wanted them to wear. For this we showed them images of different bands such as Paramore, We the Kings and You Me At Six.

We also spoke to the main girl (Shannon) and the main boy (Antony), we told them what we expected of them and what they would be doing in the music video.
After the meeting we had another media lesson, in this lesson myself and Shelby looked at prospective locations and went about booking them. We then wrote a list of the people that would be in the video and decided that we needed to talk to their heads of year to make sure that it was okay to pull them out of TWO lessons.
After that we needed to talk to their teachers of the lessons that they would be missing, as we needed there permission to take them out of their lessons.

Task Six- Image Annotation

We have looked at many of the genre of videos that we intend on doing and have taken images from them to create a mood board to show you the idea of what we want the video to look like. We have also created a mood board on the type of costumes that we intend on the people in our video to wear. We have taken these images from shops such as NewLook and Abercrombie and Fitch as well as getting images of the bands images to help us mould the image of our band.

Above are annotations of the further above documents to give you an idea of what we were thinking.

Task Five - Song Lyrics

Task Four- Song Details

Song Name: Easy Tiger- Kids in Glass Houses

This song is alternative rock. It does have a music video, however the video came out after we had planned most of the video. You will see that our ideas for the our video is a lot different from the actual video that has been made.

Task Three-Technical Tutorials- Green Screen

In this lesson we learnt how to use the Green Screen, to do this myself, Charlotte and Wesley performed Justin Bieber - Baby.
We were filmed from two different angles and then we used Final Cut to edit the footage. I found this infuriating as it was difficult to get used to the new way of editing.

Band Images and Photos- PhotoShop

In todays triple lesson we looked at band images and photos taken from their albums or photos that promote them. We looked at bands such as Coldplay and The Script, we also looked at solo artists such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber , Eminem and Usher.

We analyzed the composition of the band and the lighting within the images. we also talked about the three different lights that are used when taking pictures. (Key lighting, fill lighting and back lighting).

After looking at the images and talking about them in class, we decided to take some of our own photos. We looked at reacting how other genres had taken the images and recreated the image on their own style.
Examples of the type of pictures that we took were, Girl Band, Mixed Girl and Boy Band, Solo Artists, Rock band, Duets and Divas.

After taking these images we then learnt about Photoshop an how we can edit images to fit our genre. We learnt how to upload the image, cut it out (using the selection tool or the magic wand). We also looked at editing the images by using filters.

Task Two - Roles

Name- Ryan
Role- Cameraman
Why- We decided that Ryan should do the filming of the video as he has a steady hand and has done more filming than we have.

Name- Shelby
Role - Planning
Why- This is because Shelby knows this song well and so she knows what will fit where. She wiil know what will make the video look authentic and what will make it look chessy.

Name- Lucy
Role- Producer
Why- I am the producer as I know many people who would be in the video and I will be able to create the right image for the band. This also involves me getting people in to do the make up and making sure that the costumes are right.

Task One- Initial Ideas

Thoughts within the Group:

We as a group looked at different genres that we could do a music video on, this meant that we had to look at the artists that we could use. When we came back together as a group we looked at the genres that we had chose and realised that not all of us liked the genres that we had choosen. We then named bands that we liked and realised that we all liked Alternatvie music.

Once we decided on the genre we started researching bands making sure that they were british and that the song choices that we made were songs that did not have a music video to it. We narrowed it down to three bands, You Me At Six (Playing the Blame Game) , You Me At Six (Contagious Chemistry), Kids in Glass Houses (Easy Tiger).

We then decided to go with Kids In Glass Houses Easy Tiger.

Locations:

Field, Garage, Bedroom.

NME

NME is a UK based magazine that also has NME Awards and NME tours. The Awards are a programme that celebrates the music talents of the year, they are like the Brits. NME sponsers a tour of the UK for up and coming bands. This could be something that Half Hr Stay -_- takes part in, this is because it will help to establish them.

The Rolling Stone

The Rolling Stone magazine is different to the other magazines that I have looked at, this is because this magazine as you can see features a range of bands and genres of music. It also features important people such as the President of America. The target audience for this magazine is spilt as it then appeals to many people making the audience bigger and therefore more people buying it. This magazine is an important goal that my band will have as it will help them establish themselves in America, this being that many of the biggest names of America have been featured in this magazine. People such as Jay-Z, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Obama, Lil Wayne and Eminem.
The Magazine is devoted to Music, Politics and other popular culture.

Kerrang!

These are just some of the magazine front covers from Kerrang! after looking at these i believe that as my band progresses and becomes more established in the music industry they will too be on the front cover the magazine.
They will fit in with this as my band too are different in appearances and are within the genre that they seem to be aimed at, the genre being Alternate, Rock, Punk and other genre similar to these.
Both front covers are different to the other as they are featuring different bands, they also have a different dimension to them they make the band stand out. In the Paramore cover they make the image look 3D as Hayley is standing in a different position to the others, with composition of the image see looks like she is coming out of the advert.

The Fall Out Boy cover is different as Fall Out Boy is a band however there are only twoo of the members of the band on the cover, this is because they are the most known and recogonised people within the band. Both of the front covers are differnt in that they use different colours and that both of them look a lot different.

MOJO

MOJO magazine is different in that most of the bands that it has on the covers are from the genre of Rock, as well as Pop and other sub genres within both genres. The MOJO magazine is targeted at the more dedicated music listeners, from the layout of the magazine you can tell they are more about the music rather than the advertisment. My band would fit in with this magazine as they are all about the music and they want to be taken seriously in the music industry.
Most of the musicians that are featured in this magazine are from the era when Rock'n'Roll really started and the still recognised bands came from. These are the bands that are the ICONS of their time, this something that my band want achieve.

The Posts above ^^

The posts above are research into the type of magazines that my poster will feature in, by looking at these magazines i am able to judge and make sure that my posters will fit into these magazines. After looking at them I am sure that my plans for what my poster will fit into the genre. The magazine that best fits my band is Mojo or Rolling Stones, this is because both magazines are not set to a specific genre and they talk about a lot of different things.

Websites

I have looked at different websites from some of the bands in the alternate genre to get a feel for how they portray themselves. From this I can see that they are always using different methods to keep up the advertisment, these websites also allow their fans to keep up to date with what they are doing constantly. This then also allows for a bigger fan base as the website is up for everybody to see.

Task Nineteen- Audience Research Two

After collecting my data I can see that most of the people that i asked lived in Sutton and Morden. These two places are very built up areas with shopping centres and train lines running into London. The majority of the people that I asked liked R'n'B music this is likely as people in more built up areas listen to R'n'B than any of the other genres. The second largest genre of music listened to is Indie music.

When asked about what people like in their music videos one third of the people said performance. From this I will note that performance is a key part of my video as many people like the performances that the Band or the Artists perform.

I decided to not do R'n'B as it would then be more challenging, I also did not chose R'n'B because at the time I listened more to Alternate music and so did the rest of my group thus making it not too challenging for us to come up with a video for the song.

Task Eighteen- Audience Research One

From this questionnaire I will find out key infomation that will influence the direction that my music video goes in as i will want to make sure that it ticks all the right boxes when being watched by my target audience.

See Audience post, just before task 14 (research) for a photofit of my audience.

Task Seventeen (b)- Record Label Research

I chose none of the record labels above as I chose to use the record label that You Me At Six (YMAS) were with. This was because the song that I intend to use is by YMAS and therefore it already fits into a record label that signs bands such as HALF Hr Stay -_- .
